Katy Bourne chosen as Tory candidate for Sussex’s Police Commissioner
Yesterday political newcomer Katy Bourne was selected by the Tories as their candidate for Sussex in the new Police and Crime Commissioner elections coming this November.
Blonde Katy, mum of two, dressed in a matching cream trouser suit, saw off 11 male rivals to win the nomination at Burgess Hill’s Triangle Sports Centre. More than 400 Conservative Party members took part in the marathon five hour contest.
Francis Maude , Sir Nicholas Soames, Simon Kirby, and Climate Change Minister Charles Hendry were some of the Sussex MPs attending.
Arundel MP and Police Minister Nick Herbert said; “Justice delayed is justice denied.” He explained how the plan for an elected Police Commissioner had originated under Michael Howard’s leadership in 2005 and he steered the legislation through Parliament. The new elected commissioners will replace the largely discredited and ineffective County Police Authorities.
Katy, a local Sussex Councillor, spoke of the need to place the rights of victims at the heart of the criminal justice system. She has a background in business start ups and wants to bring in Hybrid cars wherever possible.
