It costs just £1.99 for a full length 70,000 word book giving a fabulous read.
It is not a serious historical enactment, but rather an erotic fantasy of what life might have been like in those far off days.
1342 Taylor Hudson
Mature history student, pretty early 30’s Melissa has time travelled back to medieval England. Arriving in 1342 she finds herself married to Lord de Sade who has a most unsavoury reputation.
Fleeing to the forest with her loyal maid Agnes, who is about 16 years old but can’t count past ten, she finds herself the centre of a May Eve witches’ sabbat. Rescued by the handsome Sir Giles, she finds temporary safety and love in his castle before her husband catches up with her.
The witchcraft seems frighteningly real, and the climatic finale between the witch and the bishop leaves the reader wondering just how true it might be.
The violence is tastefully scaled back which does nothing to inhibit the sense of excitement and adventure the book brings.
Set in a time when physical punishment was an everyday reality, Taylor Hudson in 1342 injects a wry humour into the proceedings in her Lord’s castle.
Taylor Hudson has been a long time in writing this novel. The first chapters were released some time ago and the completed version was repeatedly requested by reviewers and readers alike.
At just over 70,000 words the length seems just right, in fact it felt there was a lot more which could have gone in, leaving the reader looking forward to any subsequent adventures.
Although a fantasy novel, the author has included factual history and has set the story in two real Sussex castles which the reader can visit if so inclined.
The first, Arundel, is a major castle, managed by the National Trust and open to the public. It has a real Norman stone keep with battlements and a stairway to the dungeons.
Later additions are so vast it takes more than one visit to do justice to this fabulous edifice which is entwined into the adjoining town.
Amberley Castle is a few miles up the road and is a smaller 13th century version. Converted into an upmarket hotel a few years ago it is a lovely location for lunch.
Travelling on the train northwards from Barnham on the Bognor to London line, both castles are visible. Set in spectacular scenery, you have to be quick to spot Amberley as it passes by on the right.
It leaves one wondering who might have lived there all those years ago.
