Writer Susan Hill<\/strong>‘s classic ghost story was performed with brilliance to a packed Theatre Royal Brighton<\/strong> last night.<\/p>\n
The audience was kept on the edge of their seats as a series of sudden crashes and bangs made this thrilling modern day spine chiller come alive.<\/p>\n
Hill<\/strong>, author of ‘The Woman in Black’ and director Roy Marsden<\/strong>, Inspector Dalgliesh in PD James’s popular TV series, would have created a successful formula by themselves but coupled with the acting skills of Andrew Lancel<\/strong>, Diane Keen<\/strong> and Robert Duncan<\/strong> we have a real winner!<\/p>\n
Designer Elroy Ashmore<\/strong> provides a wonderful backdrop of of houses deep in the woods, haunted train rides and an eerie Scottish castle with ‘fine views from the hills.’<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>From Susan Hill<\/strong>, the million-selling author of The Woman In Black<\/em>, comes a new spine-tingling stage thriller starring Andrew Lancel<\/strong>, Diane Keen<\/strong> and Robert Duncan<\/strong>.\u00a0 The play visits Theatre Royal Brighton from Monday 3 \u2013 Sat 8 November.<\/strong><\/p>\n
Adapted from Susan Hill\u2019s 2010 novel, THE SMALL HAND<\/strong> tells the story of Snow, a dealer in 19th<\/sup> and 20th<\/sup> century paintings who accidently comes across a derelict Edwardian house after taking a wrong turn. Curiosity gets the better of him and he approaches the front door to take a closer look, but is hit with a chilling sensation as he feels a small cold hand reach for his own. Over the coming weeks, Snow suffers recurring nightmares and panic attacks and tries to find out more about the house and its occupants, while the small hand continues to reach out for him…<\/p>\n
<\/p>\nDiane Keen<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
The critically acclaimed Woman In Black<\/em> became one of the most terrifying stage plays ever staged and now, THE SMALL HAND<\/strong> promises to take audiences to a new level of terror.<\/p>\n
Leading the cast is Andrew Lancel<\/strong>, who takes on the role of Adam Snow fresh from his West End run in Epstein<\/em>. He is best known for his role in long-running ITV soap Coronation Street<\/em> as the evil businessman Frank Foster, which won him ‘Villain of the Year’ at the British Soap Awards in 2012. He also starred as DI Neil Manson in The Bill<\/em> and Barry Pearce in Series 4 of Bad Girls<\/em>.<\/p>\n
Starring alongside him is Diane Keen<\/strong>, one of British television\u2019s most popular actresses, who starred in the late 70s sitcom Rings On Their Fingers<\/em>. Until 2012, she was best known for her role in BBC daytime soap Doctors<\/em>, playing practice manager Julia Parsons.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\nRobert Duncan<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
They are joined by Robert Duncan<\/strong>, who is best known for his role as jargon-spouting chief executive Gus in 1990s newsroom sitcom Drop The Dead Donkey<\/em>. He has played in theatres the length and breadth of the country and played many leading roles including Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named<\/em> Desire,<\/em> Petruchio in The Taming of the Shrew<\/em>, Mr Rochester in Jane Eyre<\/em>, Frank in Willy Russell\u2019s Educating Rita, <\/em>and most recently starred in 12 Angry Men<\/em>.<\/p>\n
