The audience, at near capacity, clapped warmly at every opportunity throughout the play. <strong>Lipman<\/strong> and <strong>Shearer&#8217;s<\/strong> ballroom dancing was superb with a light touch that only the truly great have.<\/p>\n<p>The theatre, one of <strong>Brighton<\/strong>&#8216;s star attractions always exudes a timeless quality of genteel living, particularly so in the upstairs bar where theatre staff Annie and her colleagues make the evening extra special with their warmth and charm.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6767\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6767\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-6767\" src=\"https:\/\/the-news.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Daytona-02356-Maureen-Lipman-as-Ellie-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Maureen Lipman as Ellie\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6767\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Maureen Lipman as Ellie<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Coming to <strong>Brighton<\/strong> direct from the <strong>West End<\/strong>, the critically acclaimed <strong>DAYTONA <\/strong>is gripping, poignant, funny and full of mystery.<\/p>\n<p>The play, set in the 1980s, has not one, but two love stories at its heart.\u00a0 Elderly Jewish immigrants Joe and Elli, who live in Brooklyn, have been married for fifty years and despite constantly bickering, clearly love each other.\u00a0 They share a love of ballroom dancing and are practising their routines for the next big competition.<\/p>\n<p>Then one bitter cold night, Joe\u2019s long lost brother Billy, who had abruptly disappeared from the couple\u2019s lives many decades before, changing his name in order to completely break from his past, arrives at their apartment unannounced from his vacation in Daytona, Florida.<\/p>\n<p>What can he possibly want of them? What can be gained from this uneasy reunion?
