{"id":6692,"date":"2014-07-15T15:46:36","date_gmt":"2014-07-15T15:46:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/coopsy.co.uk\/thenews\/?p=6692"},"modified":"2016-02-06T19:50:13","modified_gmt":"2016-02-06T19:50:13","slug":"greenfingers-26-sweet-pepper-and-cherry-tomato","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/the-news.uk\/index.php\/gardening\/2014\/07\/greenfingers-26-sweet-pepper-and-cherry-tomato\/","title":{"rendered":"Greenfingers 26-Sweet Pepper and Cherry Tomato\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0Sweet Pepper<strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Black', 'Avant Garde'; font-size: 12pt;\">Sweet Pepper and Cherry Tomato<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">A few months ago my favourite Brighton florists displayed a batch of vegetable plants leaving me wondering if it was possible to grow them as indoor plants and see they produced any edible fruit.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Cherry Tomato<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6694\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6694\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-6694\" src=\"https:\/\/the-news.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0737-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Cherry Tomato\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6694\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cherry Tomato<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The two plants I bought were a Cherry Tomato and an Orange Bell Pepper.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Both needed an outside windowsill enabling them to get some sunlight along with the fresh air they enjoy. To encourage their fruit to grow they need watering regularly with a high potash fertiliser, a typical one having an NPK of 24-8-16 printed on the packet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">It has been a real pleasure to obtain fruit from both. The tomato plant was ready for picking at the time of buying. They were really wonderful with a richer and fuller taste than the shop varieties. About a month past before the second crop started to ripen and it should be ready for harvesting in a few more weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Sweet Pepper<\/strong><\/h4>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6696\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6696\" style=\"width: 570px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-6696\" src=\"https:\/\/the-news.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0733-570x380.jpg\" alt=\"Sweet Pepper\" width=\"570\" height=\"380\" srcset=\"https:\/\/the-news.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0733-570x380.jpg 570w, https:\/\/the-news.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0733-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6696\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sweet Pepper<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The Sweet Pepper plant, originally from<strong> Mexico<\/strong> and South America and not to be confused with black peppercorns from , has been a joy from the start.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The small orange peppers look so cute one suspects they might be ornamental yet when sliced up the taste is sensational- sweet yet crisp when eaten raw and equally delicious when grilled under a low heat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Truly nothing beats growing your own and huge gardens with greenhouses aren\u2019t necessary.
