Hove Park parents back NUT strike action<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Parents, carers and students at Hove Park School (HPS) have backed strike action by NUT members of the teaching staff. The strike takes place on Wednesday 16th<\/sup> July and the head teacher has informed parents that both school sites will close on the day.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hands Off Hove Park School spokesperson Sharon Duggal said, \u201cWe support the teachers taking strike action because we recognise that the high level of feeling against the academy plan among staff. Parents and carers share the teachers\u2019 concerns that the case for the academy has not been made in terms of benefits to pupils.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also see that it is a threat to staff and student morale and standards as the deregulation that comes with academy status erodes the pay, terms and conditions of staff. We are already seeing very good teachers leaving the school as they don\u2019t want to work in an academy.<\/p>\n

Brighton & Hove City Council<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\u201cBrighton & Hove City Council has passed a motion to say it is against the academy plan, over 90% of the teachers and support staff are against the academy plan and we expect the results of Wednesday\u2019s ballot to show that parents are strongly against the academy plan. It is hard to see how the governors can go ahead with such an unpopular decision in the face of such strong opposition.\u201d<\/p>\n

Members of Hands Off Hove Park School will be joining the teachers on the picket lines at Nevill Road and Valley Campus, Hangleton Way. We are also urging parents and carers to email the head teacher and the chair of governors to say they support the strike. <\/p>\n
