Eves 7.45pm<\/strong> Wed, Thu & Sat mats 2.30pm<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Robert Powell<\/strong>, one of Britain\u2019s most instantly recognisable actors, stars as Hercule Poirot in a new production of Agatha Christie\u2019s<\/strong> first ever play, BLACK COFFEE<\/strong>.\u00a0 The play, presented by the highly respected Agatha Christie Company<\/strong>, runs at Theatre Royal Brighton<\/strong> for a week from Tue 27 \u2013 Sat 31 May<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Robert Powell<\/strong>has received multiple awards and a BAFTA nomination for his portrayal of Jesus in Franco Zeffirelli\u2019s Jesus of Nazareth<\/em>. Robert went on<\/p>\n to star in numerous film hits including: The 39 Steps, Four Feathers <\/em>and Shaka Zulu<\/em>. His extensive stage performances include: Alan Bennett\u2019s Single Spies<\/em>, Keith Waterhouse\u2019s Jeffrey Bernard Is Unwell <\/em>and Oscar Wilde\u2019s The Picture of Dorian Gray.<\/em><\/p>\n Robert is supported by a heavyweight cast \u00a0including Agatha Christie Company regulars: Liza Goddard<\/strong>, star of such TV hits as Bergerac <\/em>and the long running Give Us A Clue<\/em>, Gary Mavers<\/strong>, who is best known for playing heart-throb doctor Andrew Attwood in Peak Practice <\/em>and Ben Nealon<\/strong>, perhaps best loved for his role as Capt Forsythe in the ITV drama Soldier Soldier<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/em>A quintessential English country estate is thrown into chaos following the murder of eccentric inventor Sir Claud Amory, and the theft of his new earth<\/em><\/p>\n shattering formula. Arriving at the estate just moments too late, one man immediately senses a potent brew of despair, treachery and deception amid the estate\u2019s occupants. That man is Hercule Poirot.<\/em><\/p>\n From the pen of the great Dame Christie \u2013 (who, having sold over 4 billion books worldwide, is outsold only by the Bible and Shakespeare) – Poirot debuted in Christie\u2019s 1920 novel The Mysterious Affair at Styles, making his first – and only – stage outing in the mistress of murder\u2019s debut play, BLACK COFFEE<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The Belgian investigator went on to become one of world\u2019s most cherished and long lived fictional characters, appearing in 33 novels, one play and more than 50 short stories published between 1920 and 1975.
