Its notable former owners include Sir Joseph Ewart, a past Mayor of Brighton who had a street named after him. In 1891 he lived in Montpelier Hall with his daughter, cook, parlour maid and housekeeper, with a coach man living above the stables in what is now Waitrose car park.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSir Joseph Ewart had the distinction of turning on the city&#8217;s first electric street lights in 1894 and is commemorated with a plaque on the seafront near the West pier.\n<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2333\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2333\" style=\"width: 570px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/the-news.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Montpelier-Hall-6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2333\" title=\"Montpelier Hall 6\" src=\"https:\/\/the-news.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Montpelier-Hall-6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"570\" height=\"406\" srcset=\"https:\/\/the-news.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Montpelier-Hall-6.jpg 570w, https:\/\/the-news.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Montpelier-Hall-6-300x213.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/><\/a>a<figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2333\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Montpellier Hall-front<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\n\t<strong>Roger Amerena, <\/strong>62, has been the owner since 1985 and is rightly proud of his role as the house&#8217;s present custodian.
