font-size: 12pt;\">By William Mills<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The last Saturday in July sees fetes and garden parties on both sides of the Channel.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">During WWII the Allied Chiefs of Staff said the Channel ports were so heavily defended that they were impossible to attack.
