\nA yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office sees the UK brace itself for blankets of snow and ice today and this weekend.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The good news is that a recent HomeServe<\/em> study1<\/sup><\/em> reveals around two in every three neighbours in Brighton and Hove will look to find ways to help their vulnerable and elderly neighbours as wintry weather strikes UK.<\/span><\/p>\n

The study, carried out in Autumn\/Winter 2015, shows that the people of Brighton and Hove will overwhelmingly (62%) be helping out their vulnerable neighbours. Help such as by gritting paths, DIY jobs (31%), stocking cupboards (21%) and checking heating (19%) top the list of responses.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSupporting the most vulnerable people in our communities is an incredibly important role for so many people\u201d said HomeServe\u2019s<\/em> Brand Director John Greaves. “It\u2019s pleasing to see that caring neighbours across Brighton & Hove will be taking the time to check on their elderly or vulnerable neighbours and helping them out in so many different ways.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The nationwide HomeServe<\/em> ‘Good Neighbours’ poll of more than 2,000 UK homeowners shows that women are more likely than men to check on neighbours\u2019 food stocks (23% compared to 18% of men), while men are most likely to carry out DIY and repair jobs (30% to 20% women) and salting or gritting paths (28% to 24% women).<\/span><\/p>\n

Younger people are most likely to check if vulnerable neighbours have enough heating, with under 35s topping the poll at 18%, however, it is the under 25s who are the most likely to invite older, more vulnerable neighbours round so they are not lonely during the winter period.<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s a warming and positive result to see such support promised in the local community.<\/span><\/p>\n
