The play is a new translation by Richard Bean, the adaptor of the smash hit National Theatre production One Man, Two Guvnors, which visits Theatre Royal Brighton for 3 weeks this Christmas.
In Molière’s medicinal masterpiece, the penny-pinching Argan is healthy, wealthy and completely obsessed by a list of imaginary ailments he believes himself to be suffering from. Confusion is piled upon hilarious confusion as a gang of eccentric quacks and Argan’s treacherous wife endeavour to fleece him of his fortune, whilst his lovesick daughter, her dashing lover and an astute maid attempt to set him straight.
Imogen Stubbs’ many stage roles include a recent appearance in Strangers on a Train in the West End. She appeared in a guest lead role in Parents, a comedy drama starring Sally Phillips for Sky TV.
The cast also includes Olivier award winning Tracie Bennett, who took the West End by storm with her portrayal of Judy Garland Olivier award-winning End of the Rainbow.
Lindsay Posner is one of the UK’s greatest directors of comedy. His recent successes include Hay Fever with Felicity Kendal, recently seen at Theatre Royal, Noises Off, Abigail’s Party, and Relatively Speaking. He is currently directing Lindsay Lohan in her West End debut in Speed the Plow.
