ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL, one of Britain’s best loved TV programmes, takes to the stage in a major new dramatisation. The play stars Coronation Street’s Oliver Mellor as the iconic vet James Herriot and is accompanied by a star cast.

Set against the idyllic background of the North Yorkshire Dales, the close and hard working community, homely farmhouses and rowdy public houses were expertly captured in a series of novels which sold in their millions worldwide before being made into two films and a classic BBC TV series.

Based on the books of real life vet Alf Wight and his semi-autobiographical anecdotes of newly-fledged practitioner James Herriot, the TV series captured the hearts of viewers for over a decade.

Blue Peter

Joining Mellor as fellow veterinarians in this all new production are TV regular and Blue Peter favourite Mark Curry as his blustering but good-natured boss, Siegfried Farnon and heartthrob Lee Latchford-Evans of multi-million selling pop sensation Steps, his delightfully roguish younger brother Tristan Farnon.

Steps

ACGAS-10222Point4 Children’s Clare Buckfield plays James’ wife, Helen and Susan Penhaligon takes on the role of the wonderfully eccentric client Mrs Pumphrey accompanied, of course, by her beloved and highly indulged lap dog Tricki-Woo, his extravagant hampers, letters and ever problematic “flop-bott” and “cracker dog” ailments.

Mellor swaps checking the pulses of the residents on the famous cobbled street for midnight call outs in Darrowby. We follow as he risks life and limb to save a herd of prize cattle or poisoned pigs and with them the livelihoods of the practice’s eccentric clientele before enjoying a well-earned pint in the Drovers Arms. Leaving his city ways behind him, he wins the heart of this colourful community and journeys into manhood.

All the life, humour and humanity of this British institution can now be re-lived as the show reaches Brighton.
