Later Roger Amerena, Heritage Commissioner and Brighton’s acknowledged expert on building conservation said;
To a packed council chamber with Simon Kirby MP present as an onlooker, campaigner Mr Wedd eloquently presented the petition with a three minute speech.
A fierce 15 minute debate by councillors followed with the Council leader, Green Jason Kitcat unfairly accusing the Tories of the planning problem in which the city finds itself.
On balance the chamber was receptive of the Deans plight and agreed the petition go to the planning committee. I believe the SOD case is strong and the Heritage Commission will back its objections right through the planning process.
