KEMPTOWN MP MEETS WITH VIDEO GAMES INDUSTRY REPRESENTATIVES

Simon Kirby M.P.’s office has issued the following press release

Simon Kirby, Member of Parliament for Brighton Kemptown has met with representatives of the Association for UK Interactive Entertainment as well as local companies; BossAlien, Unity and Relentless Software to discuss the benefits that the video games sector brings to Brighton and the UK.

The industry contributes approximately £1billion a year to UK GPD, employs over 9,000 people and plays a large role in the UK’s research and development sector.

Speaking after the meeting Simon, a Parliamentary Private Secretary within the Department for Culture, Media and Sport responsible for the video games industry said: “The Government is committed to ensuring the video games industry continues to be a thriving part of the UK’s economy, for instance through the introduction of tax credits for the industry last year.

This support will allow and encourage video game producers and manufactures to continue to grow and create jobs at all levels both locally and across the country.”

Jason Avent from BossAlien said “It was great to meet Simon and discuss the benefits that our industry brings to both Brighton and the UK as well as how we are improving links with universities and colleges.”

Andy Brammall from Unity commented that “Meeting with Simon was a great opportunity to show how companies like ours are competing on a global level and expanding into other industries, providing

them with new technologies and methods of operation”.

Simon added: “I am delighted that here in Brighton we are the forefront of this fast-paced and technologically advanced industry.”
