Locals enjoy summer fete on Fecamp seafront

The last Saturday in July sees fetes and garden parties on both sides of the Channel.

But in Fecamp, a small fishing port in Normandy some 70 miles south of Brighton, while the locals strolled along the promenade and made merry their army stood guard.

One can only wonder whether the French Government are trying to cover every social event in their country with armed soldiers in case of a terrorist attack?

Yet the harbour at this time of year has numerous craft coming and going.

During WWII the Allied Chiefs of Staff said the Channel ports were so heavily defended that they were impossible to attack. Not any more it seems.

Back in the UK are our Police going to make to same effort as the French to keep us safe?
