Traffic in Brighton and Hove Ground to a halt as 2,000 people marched through the City centre as the public sector unions protested against Government cuts.
The march started from Hove Hall Town at 10.30 am Thursday 10th July
Labour’s Nancy Platts turned out to support the unions……
The local Labour Party had the most colourful banner…….
The marchers set off along Western Road towards Churchill Square. It was good natured to start with but…..
By Churchill Square a number of shoppers shouted;
Go back to work. You are lucky to have a job.
At the top of North Street tempers boiled over and one marcher stepped out of the line to confront a shocked onlooker but Police quickly defused the situation.
After going down North Street the march progressed onwards towards the Level.
