Sunday 4th November 2012 saw the Veteran Car run between London’s Hyde Park Corner and Marine Parade, Brighton organised by the Royal Automobile Club.
More than 500 entrants braved the 60 mile trip leaving at just before sunrise, 7 am, with the first of the pre 1905 cars arriving around 10am and the last expected by 4.30 pm as the sun dipped below the English Channel’s horizon.
The rally started in 1896 to celebrate the Highway Act which lifted the speed limit from 4 mph to 14 mph and removed the restriction to have someone walking in front with a red flag.
Everyone looked relieved to reach the finish line on this crisp autumn day.
