What’s more the evening’s Best Dressed Lady competition, in conjunction with House of Fraser in Chichester, offers the lucky winner an incredible prize of £1,000 cash and a luxury designer hamper.

Jo talks to Simon Williams, Executive Director of Fontwell Park, about fashion and what she recommends ladies wear to the races:

What would be your go-to outfit for a day at the races?

It’s more about my go-to websites and boutiques! I’m relishing the opportunity to dress up for the races and making some new additions to my wardrobe! I usually check out Matches.fashion.com and Oxygen boutique or Farfetch.com.  Plus Urban Outfitters or Top Shop have excellent dresses and tops you can discover.

Is there a particular colour you would select?

This season there are so many outfits in gorgeous lipsmacking colours that we are spoilt for choice. I’m loving the pale dusky pinks that are around. I’d always go for pinks or blues.

What kind of dress length would you recommend?

Just above the knee seems to suit me – I prefer things that show off my knobbly knees rather than exposing other bits of me that are more wobbly. There are some great skirts just above the ankle that look ace with the right shoe, so either short, or ankle skimming, but nothing in between.

Is there a particular shape or texture you think works well at an outdoor event?

Something that doesn’t wrinkle is a priority. Nothing too silky because in all the excitement there will undoubtedly be spillages and stains are never a good look. Something that makes you stand out from the crowd is a must. I think it’s probably all down to colour to do that.

How do you ensure your shoes are glamorous without sinking in the grass?

Fortunately the platform or the low block heel is very much on trend. Many of these come in bright metallic blues, silvers and greens and many are jewel encrusted. Perfect for a race day and not sinking in the mud!

How would you accessorise for a day at the races?

With great shoes, jewellery and a fabulous bag. There are some very creative bags around this season that look like confectionary or gadgets with a bright, cartoon-like quality. They’re real scene stealers and can make an outfit.
