Sea Life Brighton
Secrets of the Reef opens 24 March 2016
Sea Life Brighton, the world’s oldest operating aquarium, is once again pulling out all the stops with its latest attraction – the global debut of Secrets of the Reef.
After 12 months of planning and four months of intensive preparation work, the breath-taking Secrets of the Reef will open to visitors on 24 March 2016, making it the perfect Easter activity for the whole family.
The brand new installation will invite visitors to discover the paradise of a Maldives reef and meet its most famous residents like the regal tang and clownfish.
Visitors will also be able to get closer to the creatures at Sea Life Brighton than ever before with a series of interactive displays and an incredible new crawl-through coral reef.
A truly awe-inspiring attraction, Secrets of the Reef will bring more than 400 new fish across 31 different species to Sea Life Brighton, along with 70 captivating seahorses, two tons of rock and over 15,000 litres of water.
In addition, Secrets of the Reef will introduce two brand new creature zones to Sea Life Brighton; Secrets of the Reef Coral Gardens and Seahorse Nursery.
These areas will highlight the aquarium’s important coral conservation project in the Maldives and seahorse breeding program.
Max Leviston, General Manager at Sea Life Brighton comments:
We are thrilled that Sea Life Brighton has been chosen to unveil Secrets of the Reef for the first time!
Secrets of the Reef is an incredible installation with everything from bold, colourful creatures to a strong message about the importance of conservation, a range of fun and educational activities and the chance to get up close to these beautiful underwater species.
I am certain that Secrets of the Reef is quickly going to become one of our most popular attractions – and a real must-see this Easter!”
Sea Life has been involved in a coral restoration project in the Maldives since 2007; one of the biggest projects the company has embarked on. The project supports local communities to restore and protect their reef as the source of their livelihood and helps ensure Sea Life’s fish are sourced using sustainable practices.
Secrets of the Reef is the second global launch at Sea Life Brighton in as many years, following hot on the heels of the aquarium’s Jurassic Seas installation in 2015 which is still open and available to enjoy throughout 2016.
Sea Life Brighton is open from 10am every day apart from Christmas Day. For current closing times or further information, please visit www.visitsealife.com/brighton.
